Sai Nikhil Vangala – Co-President
Sai Nikhil is a senior at duPont Manual High School. He is deeply interested in Biomedical Engineering research, spending most of his time at the University of Louisville conducting research on Engineering Low-Cost & Specific Delayed Release Oral Insulin Using 3D Printing of Biodegradable Copolymers and Chitosan. Aside from research, he is an alumnus of the Yale Young Global Scholars and the Kentucky Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. In addition to STEMinar, he is the head of grants for a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education through the art of origami known as Origami for Education. Furthermore, he plays varsity tennis for his school, who are two-time Kentucky state team runner-up. In his free time, Nikhil enjoys playing tennis, watching movies and sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Aakash Mehta – Co-President
Aakash Mehta is a senior at duPont Manual High School. He conducts biochemistry research at the University of Louisville and has previously worked on investigating structural differences in the meibum of patients with and without dry eye disease induced by graft versus host disease to get a step closer to developing a curative modality for dry eye disease as well as research on the effect of the migration of eye-area cosmetics products on interleukin-6 levels and ocular discomfort. He is an alumnus of the Research Internship in Science and Engineering. In addition to STEMinar, he is the president of duPont Manual’s Science National Honors Society and an officer of Science Olympiad. In his free time, Aakash enjoys spending time with his friends and listening to music by Shawn Mendes.
Sanya Mehta – Co-President
Sanya Mehta is a senior at duPont Manual High School. She has conducted research at the Kentucky Lions Eye Center at the University of Louisville for 2 years. Some of her previous research projects include investigating structural differences in meibum of patients with graft versus host disease, assessing the migration of eye-area cosmetics products and its influence on ocular discomfort, testing the influence of music therapy on newborns with neonatal abstinence syndrome, and determining the influence of secretion signals on the expression of anti-tau antibodies. She is an alumnus of the Student Science Training Program at the University of Florida. Along with STEMinar, she is the founder and president of Yoga Club. Sanya also enjoys singing, playing the piano, and dancing.
